Walkham holiday cottage - Customer reviews

Walkham

One of the best cottages have stayed in well equipped & spotlessly clean ,peacefull & quiet ,devon country side beautiful , owners very helpful thankyou for letting us stay didn't want to leave would come back again

Miss Richards,
Walkham

We had a fantastic stay at Walkham, the property exceeded expectations. The owners were very friendly and on hand if we needed anything. A perfect location for a restful break, would highly recommend.

Mrs Awbery-Maskell,
Walkham

Welcomed with lots of lovely welcome treats - croissants, jam, slippers etc. A warm, cosy and beautiful cottage offering pure solitude & luxury. Set in a lovely wooded area with surrounding fields and easy walk up to the outstanding moors and tors. We were frequently accompanied by Tess the owners dog who we were sad to say bye bye too. Owners lovely & friendly and left us in peace to enjoy the peace, but there if we needed then. Family came to stay in the other two cottages which were equally outstanding. The best! I’m sure we will all be back.

Ms Dunne,
Walkham

I recommend this wonderful place to anyone wanting to get away from the city. Nothing equals enjoying dinner outside with the sun setting in front of you!

Mr Latcham,
Walkham

Very friendly and helpful owner, lovely barn conversion and beautiful, peaceful setting. We had a lovely time, thank you!

Ms Chaplin,
Walkham

This is our second visit and we enjoyed it as much as the first. The cottage was very clean and the surroundings peaceful and relaxing. We did more walking up onto the moor but also enjoyed the recommended walks in the welcome book. Once again the river was great for fishing, with salmon, sea trout, brown trout and eels seen this time. Nearby pubs were very friendly, the Burrator Inn has reopened nearby and is useful to pop into for a drink.
Views on the terrace were amazing, really dog friendly, we will be booking again.
thank you

Stunning accommodation and location which I didn’t really thing the photos did justice to. Really a very beautiful and immaculate Barn. Very well equipped with lovely soaps, coffee and fresh flowers on our arrival. We loved the Sheep and my Son fell in love with Tess who kept us entertained by herding up the sheep for a couple of hours on our last night. Not sure she knew where she wanted the sheep to be just wherever she decided !

Mrs Currie,
Walkham

This is a superb holiday cottage that we found ideal for the two of us with our dog. It is extremely stylish with an excellent sized master bedroom and great bathrooms. The views from the back of the property are stunning, accompanied by the sound of birdsong and the lambs in the fields around. We were able to walk directly from the cottage onto open Dartmoor land over to Princetown.

Mrs Jones,
Walkham

Very comfortable with a splendid view across the valley, which made a wonderful change of scenery after being stuck at home for over a year! Highly recommended.

Mr Dowty,
Walkham

Our recent stay at Walkham Cottage has been a very welcoming and peaceful retreat. It is place where you can unplug your mind and recharge your body and soul. The views are beautiful and to be able wake up to them everyday even on the rainy ones was a blessing. Both beds are very comfortable and the furnishings are to a very high standard. There are two showers in the cottage and both provide very good water pressure. There is also a large bath which was very nice to soak in after a long day of walking. The log burner was lovely to sit next to and relax on a couple of rainy days and the underfloor heating was a treat for the colder days. There is a very detailed information pack for places to visit and walk. There is also a file with instruction manuals/guides for all the appliances and electronic devices. The owners are very approachable and friendly. They also own a breed of Dartmoor sheep who are kept in a nearby field. During our stay we were lucky enough to get to hold one of the new born lambs which we really appreciated. We had a couple of small issues the first day which were rectified by the owners straightaway. If there was one thing that could be improved it would be the welcome pack. If you are paying for a week or more as we did, we would have liked it to have been a bit more substantial, however, we were provided with a very nice bottle of wine, a pint of milk and lovely fresh flowers. We would recommend a stay at Walkham or any of the surrounding cottages to our family & friends and we will be back in the future. Miss Cromwell & Mr Bradshaw

Mr Bradshaw,
Walkham

Walkham cottage is one of the best properties we have stayed in terms of location and quality of accommodation. The owners were friendly but unobtrusive. The cottage was spotless and very well equipped, we didn’t want for anything. Lovely walks from the door and beautiful scenery. Such a peaceful spot for a restful break.

Ms Harper,
Walkham

A wonderful stay at a beautiful Cottage. We were greeted by a warm welcome from the owners (and their lovely dog Tess) and had a wonderful stay, the location is great for walkers and the cottage is very thoughtfully equipped. Looking forward to our next visit .

Mr Bingham,
Walkham

We really enjoyed our stay, the accommodation was excellent, really clean. Great walks from the doorstep onto Dartmoor. We found it extremely dog friendly, wonderful views from the patio, really peaceful and quiet. If you like fishing there are trout in the Walkham and the rates are very reasonable. Would recommend the Rock Inn at Yelverton or the Royal Oak at Meavy. Many thanks for a great stay.

It was our fifth time in Devon / Cornwall, and we've been in several luxary Self Catering cottages.
Walkham cottage was certainly the most proper cottage we we ever have been in. We felt like we were the first guests.
It is fully equiped with all needed things for cooking, relaxing und feeling comfortable. Amazing place at the backside with a beautiful view in the Walkham valley, surrounded by a small herd of sheep.
Luke and Masha were always friendly and helpful.
Great place to spend relaxing holidays with a dog.
Absolutely recommendable.

Mr Slatosch,
Walkham

We (family with 2 children) felt very comfortable: modern and at the same time comfortably furnished cottage, wonderful view from the terrace in the garden, heavenly peace and behind the hill the sun sets. In a folder in the house you will find all sights worth to visit, walks and many other useful tips. The owners Luke and Masha are very friendly and helpful. We can absolutely recommend this accommodation.

A perfect dog friendly self catering cottage.

We had a fabulous 11 nights in “Walkham” cottage with our Beagle, Boogie.
The location is a perfect base for exploring Dartmoor, Devon or even further afield from. The starry nights, when the skies are clear, are amazing. There are two other cottages on site and the lovely owners live in a farm house, also on site but you have plenty of privacy. We hardly noticed that there was anyone else around and it is a nice feeling not to be totally isolated. We did not want for anything but if you need anything Masha and Luke are there to help.

The cottage was lovely and warm, very clean, tastefully decorated and extremely well equipped. I cooked two roast dinners while were there and a couple of full English breakfasts. There is a log burner too but we quite sorry not to need to light it as the weather was extraordinarily warm and sunny for October, sunshine every day but two.

Our hosts had left a very nice welcome pack for us (a generous bowl of fruit, milk, croissants, butter and jam) There is a Nespresso machine with plenty of complimentary coffee pods. So you do not need to worry about breakfast for the first day at all. There was also a good bottle of red wine and lovely touches throughout like fresh flowers in the bathrooms and the dining area and thoughtful touches like torches in the bedside tables, slippers and paper lined drawers.

Our Beagle really enjoyed the little enclosed garden, as did we sitting at the table under the parasol some late afternoons. A field borders the house which is perfect for walking the dog. The owners very friendly dog, Tess was much loved by Boogie. She is usually there to welcome you but keeps her distance unless you encourage her to come for a stroke.

The beds are very comfortable and the showers are excellent with perfect water pressure (there is a bath in one of the bathrooms) Having a television in every room is very nice, after a day’s walking on the moor there is nothing better than watching a good film in bed after a bath.

We love Dartmoor’s narrow, winding roads and the cottages are on a very quiet road. If you are lucky you will end up in a sheep or cow ‘traffic jam’.

What we visited, aside from driving and walking around Dartmoor.
Definitely in no particular order of preference.

As a haven of peace and tranquility, beautifully set in the hilly waves of green, Walkham cottage really has contributed to making this year's family holiday the best we've ever had! Aside from the amazing landscape of Dartmoor with its meadows, pastures and impressive rock formations as well as the fortunately perfect weather for most of the time, we were always able to return to a newfound home in the evening or after a hike with our dog Freddy, either relaxing inside, unwinding on the cosy sofa, or enjoying the view - and often also an astonishing sunset - when sitting in the small but neat garden. The equipment and furnishing of Walkham cottage is modern, ample, comfy and comprehensive, the kitchen is great! The beds were very comfortable and both bathrooms are quite neat and pretty as well. No matter how you like to spend your holiday, be it going on walks and hikes, town visits or sightseeing all day long, or maybe just relaxing, taking a break from everyday life, the welcoming, cosy cottage definitely improves your experience in Dartmoor and Devon in general. We were greeted very friendly by our hosts Masha and Luke, who always cared for our welfare, always having a friendly ear, when we had questions or requests. They were helpful, considerate and really nice! Of course, Tess, the lovely, cheerful sheepdog shall not be forgotten. A friendly, funny companion or us and of course for Freddy. All in all, we definitely recommend Walkham cottage as the perfect accommodation for both, an exciting and eventful, but also relaxing, calming holiday, with super nice hosts! It easily makes you feel the refreshingly calm and serene nature and spirit of Dartmoor even better! Will for sure consider to return!

It was an absolute pleasure to stay at Walkham Cottage! The property has been renovated to the highest quality, and the cottage was immaculate for our arrival. Despite there being three other properties in close proximity, the cottage felt very private, and had a marvelous aspect across the valley. There is every possible amenity at the property, as well as lovely homely touches, and our hosts could not have been more accommodating! I would highly recommend!

Miss C Cavanagh,
Walkham

Very well appointed and luxurious cottage in a quiet and peaceful setting

Mr B R Biggs,
Walkham

Beautiful barn set in a wonderful peaceful setting. Excellent facilities would book again.

Mr A Whitehorn,
Walkham

The cottage had everything you would want and more for your comfort. On arrival we had fresh bread, wine, cheese and fruit. It was absolutely spotlessly clean and would definitely recommend to everyone. The best holiday home that we have stayed in as the owners had obviously thought of everything.

Mrs M Davies,
Walkham

Fantastic cottage. We had an amazing week, walking on Dartmoor and visiting the Devon and Cornwall coasts. A great family break.

Mrs Truman,
Walkham

We had a great stay in Walkham - despite the weather! It was exactly what we were looking for for a break away from the city: incredibly peaceful, lovely views, and good walking and cycling routes near by. The property is equipped to a very high standard and was a real comfort. The welcome treats added an extra special touch to our arrival. Luke introduced us to the first lamb of the year! Masha gave us some great tips on walking and cycling and the manual was really helpful in finding local pubs, shops, and activities.

Ms Julal,
Walkham

Absolutely beautifully furnished, everything spotless, comfortable beds, luxury bathrooms, fantastic equipped kitchen.....what a treat! Amazing location, walk right out the door and onto the moors, beautiful position for walkers and dog lovers. Not too far away for shops etc either. Just can't praise this property or the owners enough. Beautiful location, fantastic furnishings, spotlessly clean, well equipped for self-catering, luxury beds & bathrooms and really friendly and helpful owners. Thank you for a great holiday!

Mrs Evans,
Walkham

One of the most comfortable and high spec holiday cottages we have stayed in. Very warm and cosy for a winter break. Really good Wi-Fi and smart TVs in all the rooms meant our two teenagers were also happy!

Mrs S Helfrich,
Walkham

A super little cottage set in the wildness of Dartmoor. The owners make you welcome and are friendly and helpful. They left welcoming gifts of wine, flowers, fruit etc. The cottage is scrupulously clean. Imagine the views will be heavenly in the summer. Dog friendly. There is a big field next to the cottage where I exercised my dog when the weather prevented going elsewhere. There is a small, raised area with chairs and table which is securely fenced. This is directly accessed from the cottage. The dog-friendly pub at Meavy (The Royal Oak?) was nice.

Mrs R A Cross,
Walkham

A great holiday and we will definitely be going back there.

Mr Parsons,
Walkham

Perfect! This was our second visit to Walkham, and again, we found everything to be immaculate. We found new places to visit, and even tried some of the walks directly from the cottage. We could never tire of the views of the Walkham valley. Many thanks to Luke and Masha for everything.

Ms Hull,
Walkham

A lovely, well equipped cottage in a very peaceful location with moorland just up the road. Very luxurious shower and bathroom, with comfortable beds and furniture. Excellent welcoming groceries with a very drinkable bottle of wine! Highly recommended.

Mr Pring,
Walkham

This was our second visit to Walkham, which again we enjoyed immensely. The cottage was immaculate throughout with everything you required made available. We have stayed at a number of luxury cottages throughout England, but this has to be one of the best. This is the perfect place if you want to explore Southern Dartmoor. The cycle track following the old railway route is just a few miles away from Tavistock to Plymouth. Well done Luke and Masha!

Mr and Mrs Lee,
Walkham

We had a wonderful short break over the bank holiday. The cottage was really welcoming, and beautifully presented, a lovely touch with the wine and cheeseboard , as well as fruit and milk.
Tess was very happy to accompany our black lab on walks, and Masha kindly extended the table for us to b entertain our parents to dinner.
An idyllic setting with super comfortable beds, luxurious bathrooms and tasteful decor.
Thank you

Ms Malcolm,
Walkham

Lovely cottage with great views, well presented and fantastic bathrooms. The owners and family are very welcoming and a joy to stay with.

Mr Hellyn,
Walkham

We had an excellent stay at Walkham. The hosts were great and the barn is finished to a very high standard. There is loads of cooking equipment, and little extra touches around the barn made it feel like the hosts had really thought about their guests. We would thoroughly recommend Walkham to anyone.

Mr Smith,
Walkham

Exceeded our expectations! A stunning luxury property in the best location. We were very sad to have to go home and would definitely book here again. Everything is high end, lots of helpful gadgets including USB chargers in the plug sockets, Smart TV's in the sitting room and both bedrooms The owners were lovely and not intrusive, but were there if we needed anything. An amazing welcome pack was provided on arrival. Thank you Luke & Masha. Cosy and very warm with the under floor heating. A perfect retreat. The scenery was breath-taking. We will be back. Pure Luxury!

Ms Houston,
Walkham

A beautiful property. The cleanest self catering cottage we have stayed in. Could not fault it. Lots of goodies on arrival. Owners very helpful. All cottages were quite private to each other. would definitely recommend.

Mrs Lee ,
Walkham

The best cottage we've stayed in. Set in beautiful, peaceful Devon countryside yet near to lots of activities. You will not be disappointed if you stay there. Luke and Masha were really friendly and happy to help with anything we required. A great place to stay for a relaxing holiday.

Mr Gagnot ,
Walkham

A beautiful, spacious property in a tranquil setting overlooking the idyllic Walkham valley on the edge of Dartmoor - but well located for exploring the north and south coasts of Devon and into Cornwall. The owners, Luke and Masha were most welcoming and approachable and did everything they could to make our stay memorable and relaxing. Liz and Don

Mr Stringman ,
Walkham

Wonderful family friendly property with beautiful views. A home from home. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Bring your bike if you have one! Thank you so much to the owners Masha and Luke who couldn't do enough to help us enjoy our stay.
